Gallery – Transit of Venus 6th June 2012

On June 6th 2012 the planet Venus transited in front of the Sun. Western Australia was jinxed with very poor weather for the event, but I managed to find a glimpse of sunlight 8 hours drive south-east of Perth at Lucky Bay near Esperance on the south coast.

The spectacular location made for some spectacular photography of the Transit of Venus, and for a very enjoyable trip overall.

Below are a selection of photographs from the day including some of the photography setup used and showing where I enjoyed viewing the transit from.

A white light solar filter view of the sun with Venus transiting across it’s surface. Sunspots are also visible on the sun’s surface.
The sun rising above distant hills with Venus transiting the sun.
The view over Lucky Bay in early morning twilight before the sun rose with the transit of Venus.
