An Introduction to this site
Welcome to my Website of Amateur Astronomy, originally established in 1998. Here you'll find various information on amateur astronomy written specifically with the Southern Hemisphere Amateur Astronomer in mind. The site contains a large range of Astrophotography, information resources, reviews and more.
I have found that most of the information available on the web for amateur astronomers is written for people in the northern hemisphere. Hence I started this page, with information hopefully more suitable for the southern astronomer. I am continually adding more information and images to this site.
A little About the Author
I started being a part of amateur astronomy in late 1998 when I acquired my first telescope, a 4.5" newtonian reflector. This was then followed quickly In March 2001 with the purchase of a new 12" LX200. Next was my William Optics Megrez 80 to be used as a portable and photography scope. To use with this was purchased in 2005 of a Losmandy GM-8 and SkyWatcher 70x700 optical tube.
I now spend most of my time performing digital astro photography of small faint objects (typically galaxies, planetary nebula and plants) from my observatory in the hills of Perth, Western Australia. On occasions I find an excuse to travel to the wonderful open landscape of the Wheat Belt where I usually capture colour film astro photographs.
