About This Site and Roger Groom
|
This site comprises of three major sections: Astronomy (including astro photography), Landscape & Nature Photography, and Fireworks Photography.
Several years back I (Roger Groom) became interested in astronomy and purchsed my first telescope. That soon developed in to a hobby of Astro Photography with me spending most of my astronomy time photographing the night sky objects rather than visual observing.
In the process of learning astronomy I found limited information available on the internet for southern hemisphere amateur astronomers, and limited information on some specific products. This spurred me on to create my original astronomy website "Southern Amateur Astronomy". This has now been merged with this website, where you will find information on polar alignment, remote observing, automated astronomy, various product reviews, etc. All with the aim of helping others in similar situations to mine.
My work in Astro Photography kick-started an older hobby of mine: Landscape Photography. From this my interest in photography grew to the point it now equals my interest in astronomy.
My general photography includes subjects such as open landscapes, atmospheric photography (clouds, sunsets, lightning, storm, etc), macro photography (bugs, beetles, flowers, fungus, etc) and much more.
Many of my photographs are available for purchas as photographic prints. Astronomy related photography can be purchased through my other web site, Astro Photography Australia. General landscape and other photography can be purchased by emailing me, I sell them regularly at local markets in Perth, Western Australia and online, and while I have plenty in stock all the year round, I do not yet have online purchasing activated for this photography.
Finally, a little about me: I live in the north-estern hills of Perth, Western Australia with my partner Christine who also enjoys landscape/macro/nature photography. I work as a software developer in the inner suburbs, driving to & from work each day. I prefer the country to the city and try to stay away from the city and in the country as much as possible.
