On the 2nd May 2009 ASWA held a public viewing night at Donnan Park Oval in the town of Tammin. Tammin is a shire in the wheatbelt region of Western Australia who has welcomed ASWA in to their community by helping to establish an ASWA Tammin Observing Site.
The public viewng night occured from 5pm until 9:30pm. Once everyone had left and the ASWA members packed up their gear some went home to Perth, some went to their accommodation in Tammin, and others spent the next few hours observing at the ASWA Tammin Observing Site.
There's a few pictures here from the evening, setting up for the public viewing night and a couple of interesting ones from later at the observing site. The moon was quite bright providing some interesting lighting to shoot photo's in.
Watching the half moon set low on the western horizon (which is better than flat, goes down hill) was the hilight of the nght, an absolutely stunning sight, so rare to see the moon disapear behind trees on a distant horizon of zero degrees altitude.
