Ordinarily I would spend a trip like this obsessively taking astro photo's. This time it was a little differnet, with a heavy focus on visual observing. There was a 1970's Celestron C8, and then my Losmandy GM-8 with my Megrez 80 and my friend's Orion ED 80 both mounted, along side.
Viewing conditions were great, with excellent views of many galaxies through Virgo and surrounding locations. Comparisons between the Orion ED 80 and the Megrez 80 were also very interesting, with each being slightly more suited to various objects. The C8 provided the usual good views.
As the night progressed my camera finger got itchy so I setup the camera on a fixed camera tripod and snapped a series of sets of 20 and 30 second exposures of the Milky Way (how could I not!). This gallery contains the results from this very simplistic astro photography session.
