Startrails

This gallery contains photographs involving startrails. Startrail images can be very aesthetically pleasing if composed nicely with an interesting foreground subject. Occasionally I end up with a nice one and add it to this gallery.
The Southern Celestial Pole and Aurora Australis
This rare image shows the Aurora Australis covering the Southern Celestial Pole, Large Magellanic Cloud and Small Magellanic Cloud.

This print is available for purchase in sizes up to 50 cm x 80cm. Click here for more information.
Startrails, North to South
This quite interesting image shows the curvature of star trails from the Northern Hemisphere (facing north) to the Southern Hemisphere (behind the camera). From this unique perspective you can see the Celestial Equator running through the centre of this image and stars curving away to the north and south.
Startrails of the Southern Celestial Pole 1
This image is taken about 250km east of Perth, in the heart of the Wheat Belt region. The Southern Celestial Pole is high in the sky, with gumtrees along the horizon.
Startrails of the Southern Celestial Pole 2
Another image taken about 250km east of Perth, in the heart of the Wheat Belt region. The Southern Celestial Pole is high in the sky, with gumtrees along the horizon.
Startrails, The Milky Way and Dryandra
This image shows short startrails, the Milky Way (glowing behind the startrails, and the light form some huts. The huts and treeline give some perspective to the scale of this image.

The lights are originating from huts at the camp ground. This image was taken at a popular Western Austarlian astronomy camp, run by ASWA at Dryandra, south-east of Perth.
Startrails over Cunderdin
This is a short series of 4 30 second exposures showing the light glow from Cunderdin and Star Trails overhead. This is the view from the ASWA Tammin block. The lights will be easily blocked by 2m shrubs intended to line the property. The sky glow is suspected to be partially Perth/Northam and partially Cunderdin.
