Open Clusters

This gallery contains photographs of Open Clusters, including the Jewel Box, Messier objects and more.
M45 (Pleiades cluster)
The Pleiades star cluster (also known as the Seven Sisters) with some blue nebulosity showing.

I'm quite happy with the amount of nebulosity acquired in this image considering my Canon camera is not modified to allow more suitable wavelengths of light to be captured. This is certainly the best M45 image to date, most of my previous attempts being with film several years ago.

I didn't bother with more exposures of this object at this time because (1) a meridian flip was require
NGC 4755 (Jewel Box) Megrez 80
This is the Jewel Box wide field. I was attempting to bring out more detail in the surrounding area of the Jewel Box, as the area is so tightly packed with star and dust I thought it might be interesting to see what appeared.

Autoguiding was performed using GuideDog guiding using a Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 looking through a SkyWatcher 70x700 guidescope.

Here is a comparing shot taken wit
NGC 4755 (Jewel Box)
A quick snap of the Jewel Box, a small cluster of stars near the Southern Cross that to the eye look quite colourful. Due to a less than optimal exposure time, the colour of the stars is not preserved particularly well in this image.
NGC 4755 (Jewel Box - film)
The Jewel Box is one of the favorite objects of Southern Hemisphere vieweres. The stars within the cluster are very colourful, some say it's like a christmas tree. This image doesn't capture all that data, but is a start.
M46 and M47
M46 and M47 are a very nice pair of clusters, fitting nicely in to this field of view. The colour of the stars in this shot is very nice. A diffuser was used to keep the colour of hte brighter stars.
NGC 2477 and NGC 2451
These are two very nice but quite different open clusters in the constellation of Puppis. NGC 2477 is quite small and faint compared to it's companion 2451. However both fit quite nicely in the one field of view here, and make quite a nice composition.
NGC 6067
M45
M45 (the Pleiades, or Seven Sisters) is a very nice large cluster of stars, well known because of it's brightness and size in the sky. There is faint blue nebulosity surrounding the stars (actually unrelated to the stars themselves, just happens to be in the same line of sight such that we see the nebulosity) but I haven't managed to capture much of that here. It is particularly difficult to capture the nebulosity in light polluted skies.
M41
This is fairly plain image of M41, an open cluster. Still, I am fairly happy with the result considering guiding was working nicely and I've ended up with nice sharp stars across the field, with only some distortion at the edge.
NGC 3532
This is an image of NGC 3532, the Wishing Well Cluster. Due to photoshop manipulation to remove false colour introduced by the Megrez 80 SD, the resulting image is fairly low on colour in general. I have very limited exposure data on this object, but to be honest it doesn't look lacking I think, being a relatively bright open cluster it seems to have come up fine.
IC 2602 Southern Pleiades
This image shows the Southern Pleiades. I think I'm probably missing some of the stars (out of FOV) but am not 100% sure.
