Constellations

This gallery contains wide field photographs of the Constellations.
Constellation: Crux
Crux, the Southern Cross is a very well known southern hemisphere constellation. Visible in this image is also the Coal Sack.

This image is available for purchase as a photographic print up to 80cm x 50cm.
Scorpius (Wide Field)
A fairly narrow view of the Milky Way, showing the constellation of Scorpius (including Antares the bright yellow/orange star).

Some nice dust lanes are clearly visible thorugh the Milky Way and spreading away from Antares.

Photographic prints of this image are available here.
Scorpius (Narrow Field)
This image shows a fair proportion of the constellation of Scorpius. Antares is the bright yellow/red star. The open cluster M4 is also visible nearby Antares.
Constellation: Orion
This image is available for purchase at Astro Photography Australia as rolled or framed photographic prints.
Constellation: Orion with Sirius
The constellation of Orion is also known to southern hemisphere observers as The Saucepan. This is because of it's "up side down" orientation in the southern hemisphere.

This image shows Orion with the brightest star in the sky, Sirius, to the right of the field of view.

It's the colour of this image which is spectacular - nice crisp star colour and soft red/pink nebulosity throughout the image.

This image is
Constellation: Orion (belt and sword)
This image is a close-up of just Orion's belt and sword (the Saucepan for those in the southern hemisphere).

This image is orientated to suit how it appeared on the night of photography here in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Great Orion Nebula (M42) is clearly visible in this image, with some nice detail in the nebulosity considering the large field of view. Star colour has been preserved using a diffuser.

This image is
Emu (the) Constellation
This image shows The Emu, a constellation for lack of a better description. To my knoweldge The Emu was reconised by aboriginal people in Australia. It is a patern of stars and dust stretching through the Milkway area of the night sky. The Emu is huge, photographed here using a 17mm focal length and still only just fitting within the FOV. I was experiencing some guiding issues at the time of taking shots of The Emu so ended up just switching it off, so this is unguided.
Milky Way Rising
This is a photograph showing the Milky Way (our galaxy) - section including scorpius, rising above the eastern horizon.
The Emu Constellation
This photograph shows the "constellation" of The Emu. This is an easily reconisable area of the southern sky.
