Comet McNaught 20th Jan - Big!
Comet C/2006 P1 McNaught from a darker location that Perth City, the Ferguson Valley, overlooking the city of Bunbury, Western Australia.
Amazingly a huge fan of the comets tail is visible in this exposure. Trailing stars are visible because of the longer exposure and no tracking platform being used.

On this particular night the comet was exceptionally bright just before setting, standing out with an exceedingly obvious bright tail.
The comet is to the centre left, Venus is to the right. The city centre is to the right, out of the field of view.

The Green Flash
Just as the sun sets a green flash is sometimes visible just above the sphere of he sun.
I had never seen this until the nights when I was waiting for comet C/2006 P1 McNaught to set over the city of Perth. On 2 of the 3 nights I viewed the comet I managed to see the green flash, and on the 16th I managed to capture it with this shot.
The green flash only lasts a second or two at the most and does not always occur.

Sunset - 14th January
Sunset while waiting to photograph comet C/2006 P1 McNaught.
Believe it or not, this image does actually have some of the 'green flash' sometimes visible on the top of the sun at sunset. I will hopefully prepare an enlarged section son to make it more clear.
