Flame and Horsehead Nebulas

The Flame and Horsehead nebulas in the constellation of Orion.

I think this photograph of the Flame and Horsehead nebulas isn't too bad for an un-modified DSLR. Tmain problem with it is probably the noise, which could have been decreased by more exposures if time permitted.

I debated long over how much to sharpen the nebulosity to bring out the contrast in the two, but ended up backing off significantly on the sharpenning, with only some unsharp mask applied to the horsehead region.

I quite like the combination of colours that I've ended up with in this photograph.
